UPDATE: New deadline proposed for ICD-10 CM implementation

May 1, 2012 - In the May issue of Fallon Health's Connection newsletter, we reported that on October 1, 2013, the new ICD-10 CM will replace the ICD-9 CM code set.

However, since publication, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a proposed rule to delay the ICD-10 implementation by one year, to October 1, 2014.

The proposal is open to comments, which CMS will then review before making a final decision on the implementation date.

We don’t expect a final rule to be released before the end of May at the earliest.

We will keep you updated about the final date when we know more. For more details, go to the CMS ICD-10 Web site.
