Fallon Community Health Plan supports hunger relief efforts in Massachusetts

$150,000 distributed to 100 local organizations

Worcester, Mass., November 26, 2013 - Fallon Community Health Plan (FCHP) is once again kicking off the holiday season by providing support to hunger relief efforts in Massachusetts.

To contribute to the health and well-being of the nearly 750,000 people in Massachusetts at risk for hunger*, FCHP is distributing $150,000 to 100 food pantries and hunger relief programs throughout the Commonwealth. These donations represent the total net proceeds from FCHP’s annual fundraising event held in September: Golf & Gather FORE a Cause.

“This holiday season, thousands of people in Massachusetts are making difficult choices between food, medicine, heat and other essentials. Taking a stand against hunger is one way in which FCHP becomes a part of the solution and demonstrates our commitment to making our communities healthy,” said Christine Cassidy, Chief Communications Officer at Fallon Community Health Plan. “We’re proud to support our many community partners throughout the state who work tirelessly to change the conditions that contribute to hunger in our communities. Together, we hope to improve access to nutritious foods while providing a healthy future in the many communities we serve.”

Since 2006, FCHP has raised and donated over $1 million dollars to support hunger relief programs, which is one component of the not-for-profit’s charitable giving program.

“As a long-time advocate in the fight against hunger, I applaud Fallon Community Health Plan’s efforts and continued commitment to work towards a solution,” said U.S. Rep James McGovern (D-MA). “By taking a leadership role, FCHP is ensuring food pantries across the Commonwealth can provide countless families with good food and hope for a better tomorrow.”

This year, more than 65 different companies participated in FCHP’s fundraising initiative, Golf & Gather FORE a Cause. The following organizations are being specifically recognized for their generous contributions to FCHP’s hunger relief efforts: Epstein Becker Green, Reliant Medical Group, CVS Caremark, TriZetto Corporation, NTT Data, Worcester Business Journal and Charter TV3.

As FCHP works to expand its reach across Massachusetts, organizations in need of hunger relief assistance are asked to contact FCHP.
