Partners HealthCare, Fallon Community Health Plan reach new agreement
Partnership Provides More Access for Patients
BOSTON, Feb. 28, 2013 ―Partners HealthCare and Fallon Community Health Plan (FCHP) announced that they have entered into an agreement that will give FCHP members full access to Partners HealthCare hospitals, including Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). FCHP members will also have access to the physicians at MGH and BWH.
Effective Jan. 1, FCHP members enrolled in the plan’s “Select Care” product have unrestricted access to Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women’s hospitals. Although the FCHP network already includes many Partners physicians and hospitals, until this year, FCHP Select Care members could only visit Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women Hospital for a second opinion or specialty procedure.
The chief executives of both Partners HealthCare and FCHP, pioneers in patient-centric, health care innovations, said the partnership reflects a new era in which health plans and providers need to work together to provide better value by making care more affordable and accessible.
“This contract with Partners HealthCare will give our Select Care members full access to one of the best health care systems in the world, giving them more choice while still holding down costs for FCHP employer customers,” said FCHP President and CEO Patrick Hughes. “It’s a win for employers, consumers and the marketplace as it strives to meet the challenges of a new imperative – great but affordable health care.”
“Meeting the demand for improved but affordable and accessible patient care is a challenge that must be addressed,” said Partners Healthcare President and CEO Gary L. Gottlieb. “As we redesign our care model to meet that challenge, we are excited to partner with a health plan that has an appetite for innovation that matches our own.”
