meditatingTaking time for yourself

Posted December 19, 2014

I’ll bet you think taking time for yourself is too indulgent. Especially this time of year.

With all the extra things you have to do—buy gifts, wrap gifts, attend parties, bake for the parties, decorate your house—why on earth should you take time alone?

Because it’s good for you.

Giving yourself some "me time":

  • clears your mind
  • helps you unwind and reduce stress
  • promotes clearer focus
  • improves your productivity
  • enhances your concentration
  • stimulates deep thinking
  • enables you to work through problems
  • helps you find your own voice

OK, so maybe you’re convinced that taking time alone is worthwhile. But how on earth are you going to actually fit it into your day?

Start small.

That’s how. With little increments of time.

One minute one day . . . just stop and breathe.

Two minutes the next day . . . breathe again and maybe do a few stretches.

Five minutes on the third day . . . find a quiet place, sit and let your mind relax.

Work into it. There are many ways you can fit time into your day. Even this time of year.

Consider it a gift to yourself.
