Summer travel tips
Posted on July 18, 2014
Summer is the perfect season for a trip. It’s a chance to get away with family and friends.
When planning and packing for a trip, make sure to take steps to create not only a relaxing but healthy time away from home.
Plan ahead with any medications you need. Take a pillbox that follows the days of the week. It may make it easier to keep your medications in order and on a routine schedule.
Hydrate. Keep a water bottle on you or drink water whenever possible to avoid dehydration and heat stroke.
Be mindful of what and how much you are eating. It’s easy to indulge on vacations. Try your best to keep a good balance between your every day diet and vacation treats. Make time for your three meals per day— even if you are on-the-go.
Be cautious of sun exposure. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outdoors, and then try to apply about every hour after.
Move around as much as you can when sitting for long periods of time during travel to reduce risk of blood clots in the legs. Stop when possible to take short walks.
Book a hotel with services such as fitness centers or pools to keep you motivated and exercising.
Explore your vacation spot. Take a jog or walk on local hiking or walking trails. A sk about the walkability and length of these trails to make sure they would suit your walking style.
Stretch! Stretching is a great early-morning activity that you can do anywhere when you get out of bed.
Stay healthy, and have a great trip!
